Your Coffee Habit Is Probably Doing You Good
One of the most studied drinks on earth, and the news is mostly great.
Coffee has spent decades on health watchlists. The research has mostly cleared its name — and then some.
A surprisingly healthy cup
Large studies link regular coffee drinking to lower risk of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's, and liver disease, and even a modestly longer life. It's loaded with antioxidants, and for most people it's a net positive — not a vice to feel guilty about.
Where it goes sideways
The coffee usually isn't the problem — what you put in it can be. Syrups, heavy sweet creamers, and sugar can turn a healthy drink into a dessert. Caffeine late in the day can also wreck your sleep.
The move
Enjoy your coffee — a few cups a day is well within the healthy range for most adults. Keep the add-ins simple, and cut yourself off by early afternoon so it doesn't cost you sleep.
