Dark Chocolate Actually Earns Its Health Halo
A little bit of the good stuff is a legitimate treat.
For once, one of the tastiest things in the store is also good for you — with a couple of caveats.
The cocoa upside
Dark chocolate (think 70%+ cocoa) is rich in flavanols, plant compounds linked to better blood flow, lower blood pressure, and improved mood. The higher the cocoa percentage, the more of the good stuff and the less sugar.
Not all "chocolate" counts
Milk chocolate and candy bars are mostly sugar and milk with a little cocoa — they don't deliver the same benefits. And even good dark chocolate is calorie-dense, so this is a "square or two," not a "whole bar" situation.
The move
Reach for 70% cocoa or higher and enjoy a small piece. It satisfies a sweet craving, delivers real plant compounds, and comes with almost none of the guilt.
