Your Lip Balm Might Be Keeping Your Lips Dry
The more you reapply, the more you seem to need it. That's not an accident.
If you feel like you can't stop applying lip balm, the balm might be part of the problem.
The reapply loop
Some balms contain menthol, camphor, or phenol — ingredients that give a tingly "it's working" feeling but can irritate and dry lips over time. Others just sit on top without adding real moisture, so the relief fades fast and you reach for more.
What actually helps
Look for occlusives and humectants that do the work: shea butter, beeswax, lanolin, ceramides, or plain petrolatum. Skip the ones that tingle, taste sweet, or smell strong — flavor and fragrance are common lip irritants.
The move
If a balm makes your lips feel great for ten minutes and then worse, that's a clue. Switch to something boring and greasy. Boring is what heals.
