"Non-Comedogenic" Is Less of a Promise Than It Sounds
Another skincare word with no referee.
"Non-comedogenic" means "won't clog pores." It's a helpful idea with a shaky rulebook.
No official test
Like "clean" and "hypoallergenic," there's no standardized, enforced test a product must pass to claim non-comedogenic. Brands lean on old ingredient lists and their own judgment. It's a reasonable starting point, not a guarantee.
Your pores are individual
Pore-clogging is personal. An ingredient that's fine for most people can break you out specifically. The label can't know your skin — only trial can.
The move
Use "non-comedogenic" as a filter, not a verdict. If something breaks you out, believe your skin over the packaging, and note the ingredient so you can dodge it next time.
