Conditioner Is Where Real Hair Care Happens
Shampoo gets the attention; conditioner does the protecting.
People obsess over shampoo and treat conditioner as optional. For healthy-looking hair, it's often the more important step.
Why hair needs it
Shampoo cleans your scalp but can leave the lengths of your hair rough and stripped. Conditioner smooths the outer layer of each strand, seals in moisture, reduces breakage and frizz, and makes hair easier to detangle. The ends of your hair are the oldest and most fragile — conditioner is where they get looked after.
Where to put it
Focus conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends, not the scalp (which makes fine hair look greasy). If your hair is dry or damaged, a deeper conditioning treatment now and then goes a long way.
The move
Don't skip conditioner — concentrate it on the lengths and ends, and let it sit a minute before rinsing. It's the simplest way to keep hair from looking dry and frayed.
