Mineral Sunscreen Is a Reliable, Gentle Pick
Zinc and titanium block the sun the moment you put them on.
Sunscreen is confusing enough that people skip it. Mineral formulas are an easy, trustworthy default.
How mineral works
Mineral (physical) sunscreens use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to sit on top of the skin and deflect UV rays. They protect the moment they're applied — no wait time — and tend to be gentler, which makes them a good choice for sensitive or reactive skin and for kids.
The tradeoff, and the fix
The old knock was a white cast. Newer mineral formulas and tinted versions have largely solved that, blending in far better than the chalky ones you remember.
The move
For an everyday, low-drama option, a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide is hard to beat. Apply enough (most people underapply), and reapply every couple of hours in strong sun.
